3,607 have had the PCR test in the last 24 hours and the official count has also reported 40 more deaths
The contagions continue to skyrocket and touch one more day the 9,000 in one day. The figures updated and released this Thursday by the Ministry of Health reveal 8,959 new people infected with coronavirus since yesterday, 378 more than on Wednesday when 8,581 were notified. Of the nearly 9,000 confirmed cases, 3,607 have had a PCR test in the last 24 hours. A third of them in Madrid (1,200), the Basque Country (564), and Andalusia (363). The newly registered cases increase the total number of infections in our country from the beginning of the pandemic to 488,513.
The official count has also reported 40 more deaths, a figure increasingly frequent in the latest published Health reports. Therefore, the total number of people who died from the virus in Spain now stands at 29,234. Of course, this figure does not include those deaths in residences or those who presented symptoms characteristic of the coronavirus, but who did not get to perform the PCR test. With death date in the last week, 191 deaths have been reported.
MADRID, WITH MORE DEATHS
Madrid continues to be, by far, the community where the most lives are being lost in this second pandemic wave, registering 73 deaths in the last seven days. Behind it is Andalusia, which communicates 24; Castilla and León, 23; Galicia, 15; Valencia, 12; and the Balearic Islands, 10. Likewise, Catalonia registers nine; the Canary Islands, seven; Castilla La Mancha, six; La Rioja, four; Extremadura and Navarra, three; and Cantabria and Ceuta, one. The rest of the regions have not added any deaths in the last week.
Regarding hospitalizations, these exceed 1,000 in the last 24 hours (1,067). It is the first time this has happened since this information was included in the official report, several weeks ago. Revenues in the last week, on the other hand, once again touched 2,000. Specifically, the Health report has registered 1,853 in the last seven days. Madrid continues to lead the income ranking, with 407; followed by Andalusia, with 314; and Valencia, with 179.
In addition, 144 infected have been transferred to the ICU in the same period of time, 29 new since yesterday. On the other hand, 810 have been discharged (760 on Wednesday).
Regarding the healthcare capacity of hospitals to care for COVID patients, the official count reports that, on average, the percentage of beds occupied by a coronavirus in Spain is 6%, in the same trend, therefore, as in the days before. The communities with the most occupation are Madrid (16%), Aragon (12%) and the Balearic Islands and the Basque Country (11%).
SPAIN, SECOND COUNTRY IN INFECTIONS
At the European level, our country continues to be the second in Europe with the most infections since the beginning of the pandemic (488,513), only behind Russia, which already exceeds one million positives (1,005,000). Likewise, the United Kingdom and France follow, with 338,676 and 293,024, respectively. The country with the highest number of deaths continues to be the United Kingdom (41,514), followed by Italy (35,497) and France (30,686).
In addition, Spain continues to lead in cumulative incidence (AI) in the last 14 days among the European countries that have registered the most infections. Our country already exceeds 200 infections per 100,000 inhabitants (212, specifically). It is a figure that is more than double that of the second country with the most AI: France, with 94 infected, a figure that is rising rapidly in recent days in the French countryside.
