Chelsea has secured a good starting position for the return in France in the eighth-finals of the Champions League against Lille. The titleholder won 2-0 at its own Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea took the lead in the eighth minute via Kai Havertz, who headed in from a corner from Hakim Ziyech. The corner kicker had a starting spot. He had to be sidelined after an hour. The former Ajax player grabbed his left foot. Another former Ajax player, Sven Botman, participated for the entire match at Lille.
Shortly after Ziyech was substituted, Christian Pulisic made it 2-0 with a great bounce. The preparatory work was done by N’Golo Kante, who had an important share in the Champions League victory last season. Chelsea then defeated Manchester City in the final, 1-0.
Lille and Chelsea will meet in France on March 16. On Sunday, Chelsea await the final of the League Cup, against Liverpool.
