The new coronavirus has so far claimed 43 lives in the Netherlands. In one day, 19 people have died from the Covid-19 disease, which causes the virus, reports the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
The number of hospital admissions since the start of the outbreak has increased to 314. RIVM does not keep track of how many of these people have been discharged from hospital. The patients who died were between the ages of 63 and 94. RIVM had reported yesterday that the youngest deceased was 59 years old, but that turned out to be an administrative error.
A total of 1705 Dutch people have tested positive for the virus. That figure does not express the total number of cases, as not everyone with symptoms is tested anymore. As far as is known, Noord-Brabant remains the largest source of infection, with 634 inhabitants tested positive. This is followed by Limburg (197) and South Holland (175).
According to a spokesperson for the Dutch Association of Hospitals (NVZ), the hospitals can handle the influx of patients for the time being. The supply of mouth masks remains an acute problem, which is continuously discussed, he says.
