On New Year’s night around 02.30 am, the emergency services were called in for an accident on the N206 between Noordwijk and Noordwijkerhout. A van had flipped onto the back of another van. The person who caused the accident left the scene of the accident and ran off via the ditch into the meadow. An occupant of the van that was hit was checked… in the ambulance but did not have to go to the hospital. The fire brigade assisted the police in the search for the missing driver.
The meadow was searched with large lamps and a thermal camera. The fire brigade placed a ladder over the ditch so that an officer could run into the meadow in search of the driver who had fled without getting his feet wet. Police units quickly drove to the other side of the pasture to search there as well. Meanwhile, the salvage service arrived on site to tow the van from the perpetrator.
The police have conducted an investigation. Empty bottles of liquor and a case of beer were found near the van of the fleeing driver. It is not yet known whether the driver has already been found, an update later. The N206 has been closed for some time.
